{"id":1935,"date":"2011-08-30T11:00:04","date_gmt":"2011-08-30T15:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.playthepast.org\/?p=1935"},"modified":"2011-08-30T12:25:44","modified_gmt":"2011-08-30T16:25:44","slug":"announcements-and-invitations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.playthepast.org\/?p=1935","title":{"rendered":"Announcements and Invitations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For many of us, the semester has started (or is starting\u00a0imminently). \u00a0Students are flooding back to campus, syllabi have been finalized, first classes are on the horizon, and first official type meetings have been scheduled (or, if you are like me, they&#8217;ve never really relented over the summer). \u00a0A sense of renewal and new beginning is in the late summer (or is it early fall) air.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of this, it is the perfect time to offer up a few choice Play the Past announcements and invitations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We (as always) welcome submission of articles from guest authors. \u00a0If you have an idea for an article that explores games (broadly defined) and cultural heritage, we would\u00a0absolutely\u00a0love to hear from you. \u00a0Submissions are welcome from all of Play the Past&#8217;s rather broad array of constituents: scholars (at any type of educational institution and at any level), students (grad or undergrad), librarians, archivists, museum types, and game designers. \u00a0Interested? \u00a0If so, just drop a message via our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playthepast.org\/?page_id=30\">Contact Form<\/a>, and we&#8217;ll have a conversation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In the past year, many of our authors have discussed and explored various game projects (Mark Sample&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.playthepast.org\/?p=1666\">Documentary Evidence and Playable Space in Drama in the Delta<\/a> article being one example). \u00a0While we&#8217;ve never had a moratorium on &#8220;reviewing&#8221; games, we&#8217;ve never really officially invited the submission of games for &#8220;review.&#8221; \u00a0 With this post, that changes. \u00a0I would like to officially invite people from the community with cultural heritage game\u00a0projects\u00a0(either\u00a0nearing\u00a0completion or complete) to submit them for\u00a0thoughtful\u00a0discussion and exploration (such a better phrase than &#8220;review&#8221;). \u00a0Let me repeat that: &#8220;thoughtful discussion and exploration.&#8221;\u00a0We aren&#8217;t interested in reviewing games (in the traditional sense).\u00a0 As such, we aren&#8217;t\u00a0guaranteeing\u00a0that everything that is sent to us will merit discussion on Play the Past. \u00a0Yes, we will pick and choose.
