{"id":541,"date":"2010-12-17T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-17T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.playthepast.org\/?p=541"},"modified":"2010-12-17T09:47:46","modified_gmt":"2010-12-17T14:47:46","slug":"thanks-happy-holidays-publishing-hiatus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.playthepast.org\/?p=541","title":{"rendered":"Thanks, Happy Holidays, &#038; Publishing Hiatus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One month ago (yesterday) Play the Past went live. \u00a0It was a project that I had been nursing for some time, and I quite honestly had no idea how it would be received. \u00a0I knew that the model of a\u00a0collaboratively\u00a0contributed and lightly edited blog worked (based on my involvement with ProfHacker). \u00a0I also know that there was were people interested in reading about (and\u00a0discussing) games (broadly defined) and cultural heritage (equally broadly defined).<\/p>\n<p>The results were far better than I could ever have imagined. \u00a0In this past month, we&#8217;ve experienced a far more traffic than I quite frankly expected in such\u00a0a limited\u00a0slice of time &#8211; and there are two very clear reasons for this. \u00a0The first is that we&#8217;ve started to build a great community of commenters\u00a0who&#8217;ve extended the discussions wonderfully and thoughtfully beyond the orignal text of the articles&#8230;and for that, we&#8217;re extremely\u00a0grateful. \u00a0Second, the authors. \u00a0It is no stretch for me to say that the success of Play the Past has almost everything to do with our incredible authors. \u00a0Everyone&#8217;s contributions have exhibited a breadth and depth of both content and thoughtfulness that leaves me pretty damn humbled.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being our one month anniversary (+1 day, but whose really counting&#8230;besides me, of course), today also marks our final day of regular publishing. \u00a0After this post, we&#8217;re taking a little holiday hiatus. \u00a0Don&#8217;t be sad, however, as we&#8217;ll resume our regular publishing schedule in January. \u00a0In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all or our readers a very happy holiday on behalf of all of us at Play the Past.
